It’s so weird to think that it wasn’t so long ago that I actually went to stores and purchased Compact Discs. Ha! How quaint.
For the past few years The Medleys get their music (new and old favorites) 3 ways:
1. The public library. Lars brings CDs home by the boatload every week. We burn what we like. Okay – I know this isn’t exactly “legal,” but if our hard drives exploded tomorrow, we’d be shit out, and like, I like to imagine that buying things for the library is the only way my tax money is spent. Shhhh!
2. iTunes. Yes, I’m one of those assholes that buys only the songs I like. It really wasn’t that hard for me to adapt “to the times” as they say. I think I was the first of my friends or among the first to go digital and I’ve seriously never felt sad about it. I love the instant gratification. I’m gross, I know…but….
3. Vinyl. Once we put together our frankenstereo or “Frank” – we’ve obsessively been collecting music in its, I think best form.
I took a long lunch with Lars today and we stopped by our favorite record store in the city, Randy’s and walked away with quite the haul.
Lars always opts for the more… you know “good,” respectable stuff and I barely know I’m alive if I’m not walking out of that place without some Human League movie theme, so… it’s always funny to watch the hipster record snobs check us out.
Tattoo girl, after having flipped through most of my selections, falls on Lars’ Dangerdoom record: Oh, this is a great one.
Lars: Yeah.
Hippie guy: Oh yeah, man that’s a great one. You don’t see that one used very often. (Spying Lars’ next selection, “Chrome Children”) – oh yeah, man – that’s another good one.
(cut to my Chaka Khan record) Silence.
Whatever, donkeys – I AM every woman!
Anyway – here’s a taste of what we got today:
