Help a family out – and get some great art in return

March 31, 2009 By: Tracy Category: diary

My dear friends the Schleys are about to adopt their 4th child, but they need a little help.  Yue Yu is 9 years old, cute as a button and almost ready to be picked up by her new parents, who are just waiting for their last approval papers from China.

They’ve created a donation website, but it’s more than that – see – Anita and Kevin (mom and dad) also happen to be incredibly talented photographers and artists…and they’re selling some great work on the site to help out.

If you have a second and maybe a little extra cash (any bit will help) – please check out their site and donate if you can.

My friend Mark inspired me to find out my “personality type” …and no, DOUCHE isn’t one of the possible outcomes.

I’m an INFP and here’s what the internets had to say:

Counselors have an exceptionally strong desire to contribute to the welfare of others, and find great personal fulfillment interacting with people, nurturing their personal development, guiding them to realize their human potential. Although they are happy working at jobs (such as writing) that require solitude and close attention, Counselors do quite well with individuals or groups of people, provided that the personal interactions are not superficial, and that they find some quiet, private time every now and then to recharge their batteries. Counselors are both kind and positive in their handling of others; they are great listeners and seem naturally interested in helping people with their personal problems. Not usually visible leaders, Counselors prefer to work intensely with those close to them, especially on a one-to-one basis, quietly exerting their influence behind the scenes.

Counselors are scarce, little more than one percent of the population, and can be hard to get to know, since they tend not to share their innermost thoughts or their powerful emotional reactions except with their loved ones. They are highly private people, with an unusually rich, complicated inner life. Friends or colleagues who have known them for years may find sides emerging which come as a surprise. Not that Counselors are flighty or scattered; they value their integrity a great deal, but they have mysterious, intricately woven personalities which sometimes puzzle even them.

Counselors tend to work effectively in organizations. They value staff harmony and make every effort to help an organization run smoothly and pleasantly. They understand and use human systems creatively, and are good at consulting and cooperating with others. As employees or employers, Counselors are concerned with people’s feelings and are able to act as a barometer of the feelings within the organization.

Blessed with vivid imaginations, Counselors are often seen as the most poetical of all the types, and in fact they use a lot of poetic imagery in their everyday language. Their great talent for language-both written and spoken-is usually directed toward communicating with people in a personalized way. Counselors are highly intuitive and can recognize another’s emotions or intentions – good or evil – even before that person is aware of them. Counselors themselves can seldom tell how they came to read others’ feelings so keenly. This extreme sensitivity to others could very well be the basis of the Counselor’s remarkable ability to experience a whole array of psychic phenomena.

Mohandas Gandhi, Sidney Poitier, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jane Goodall, Emily Bronte, Sir Alec Guiness, Carl Jung, Mary Baker Eddy, Queen Noor are examples of the Counselor Idealist (INFJ).

Creeeeeeepy.

Please note the bulging, red blood vessels in my eyeballs – I love Mondays.

*Side note – I’m sitting in the University Union, waiting for a meeting and some guy just rolled up, talking, nay, SHOUTING on his cell phone.

Loud guy: It’s BULLSHIT!…. I don’t know, it’s BULLSHIT! …..No that’s not why I called….. I just wanted to tell you about Chris’ shit….. I know, BULLSHIT, right? FUCKING BULLSHIT!…..okay, bye.

TV makes it all better

So, as most of you know Battlestar Galactica recently ended, leaving a battlestar-sized hole in my little, ol’ heart.

Luckily, Netflix, Hulu and my DVR love me and want me to live.

Lars has been trying to get me to watch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles for a while now and last week I finally gave in.

I’m sooo happy I did. I flippin’ LOVE it. Like pulsing hearts and passing notes love. I know it’s hard to imagine, but Brian Austin Green kicks so much ass. No, really. He kicks so much ass, I’m totally crushing on him again like it’s 1991.

Watch it from the beginning or it will make no kinds of sense. Netflix season 1 and watch Season 2 on Fox.com

Robots – Flight of the Conchords

My Little Machine – The Thermals

And then – there’s Dollhouse, Joss Whedon’s new show. I’ll admit, it started slow, but I’m on board and last week’s episode proved that the show definitely has promise. Oh who am I kidding? Tahmoh Penikett walks around and says stuff…and that’s enough for me.

cast02Watch all the episodes so far on Fox.com or Hulu

Dear Jenny,

It’s true, I didn’t want to love you outside of Troop Beverly Hills, but you’ve finally gone and done it.

I’ve listened to “You are what you love” on repeat for at least three hours now – so I guess that means I’m crushing, right?

Instead of blogging like a good girl, I’m reading “Best of” lists of iPhone apps and games. Because, like I told you yesterday – I’m insane.

I already have an enormous list, but if you have a favorite app or 10, hit me up. I’d love to hear about your faves.

See my current list after the jump.

I’ve gone just this insane…

In an effort to avoid thinking about being Larsless this summer, I’m filling my brain with wonderful iPhone candy.
Planning comforts me.

Lyrics to “Long Way Home” – by reader request

March 21, 2009 By: Tracy Category: diary

Slightly embarrassing, but what the hay? This Chubby Bunny number was written in 2003ish, about stuff that happened in 1990-something-ish. It was our first and only (as of yet) attempt at country. So, enjoy.

You ran your cold hands through my hair
my spiral perm scent in the air
We tumbled, tripping down the snow covered hill
You left me crying, now you wanna know how it feels
Well, tonight I have the car
and it’s a long way home

Now you don’t call me anymore
You kissed my broken lips then walked straight out the door
despite my pretty words
you won’t love me like before
so tonight I have the car
and it’s a long way home

And all I ever got from you
was a poem painting my brown eyes blue
and an endless case of rug-burn
that left me feeling used
but tonight I have the car
and it’s a long way home

It’s a long way home
