you’re an obsession…you’re my obsession

October 27, 2004 By: Tracy Category: Uncategorized

i have had a one track mind lately…single to the goal of acquiring a laptop computer. i’m getting ready to start applying for grad school (so, i have an actual reason) but, i’ve become so fixated i can hardly think about anything else. what i REALLY really really really really want is an Apple Powerbook. i’m obsessed…i even cursed out Veronica Mars last night for having one. it’s a sickness, ok, i’m not proud of it. however, my budget is forcing me to think about “other options.” i think that i would be just as happy with (though it’s just not as silvery) the ibook…and only slightly less happy if i had to move into the PC world. i literally watch television eyeing every laptop in view. Rory Gilmore used to have one of those adorable clam shell ibooks, but, now seems to be using some fake laptop. the lady playing Lorelie’s accountant had a tiny Powerbook. Meadow Soprano had a G3 ibook during her sophomore year at Columbia. THIS. IS. HOW. OBSESSED. I. AM.

what the hell, peoples? why is it such an enormous deal to me? why the sudden immediacy? i think it started when i realized (via “financing”) that owning a laptop was even in my grasp. i don’t think blogging has helped either. i’m finding less and less time at work …and really i shouldn’t be doing this while “working” anyway. but, shhh! that’s besides the point…we’ll just keep that between you an me.

on the knitting front…i did a little more “experimenting” from the Vogue stitch dictionary…and i have the pictures to prove it.

Working my way back to you…

October 26, 2004 By: Tracy Category: Uncategorized

Yeah, I suck. I did about 32 rows of a “basic eyelet” stitch and I wussed out. My back hurt, my wrists felt achey. I gave up…made some tortellini with fresh alfredo sauce and watched the first three episodes of 4th Season Sopranos.

Yep, it was one of those nights.

Snow Job!

October 25, 2004 By: Tracy Category: Uncategorized

Oh how I love the snow! I would love it more if I didn’t have to be at work. It’s the perfect, sloshy day to curl up on the couch, watch some old movies and knit until it’s time for dinner.

Alas, the grey cubicle and the glow of my computer are giving me that hollow, almost-headache feeling.

I finished my Cranberry hat on Friday! (pictures forthcoming)…I think I’ve decided to re-name it “Pink Sugar” after the lotion my sister sent me for my birthday. It smells just like cotton candy!

Yesterday I decided that I would attempt some craziness from the Vouge Super Mega Ultimate Knitting Bible stitch dictionary. I did a little basic texture, a little drop stitch and a little “basic faggotting stitch.” (get your filthy minds out of the gutter!!) It sort of morphed into a scarf in progress. I realized that it would be a great way to practice as well as reduce some of my stash and still have a present for myself when I’m all done.

Because it’s all about me, of course.

I figure with the World Series going on, I should have a 6ft. scarf by the end of the week.

money, money, money (must be funny)

October 22, 2004 By: Tracy Category: Uncategorized

last night lars and i decided that we would start sharing a bank account. we’ve been together over three years and have lived together for two. i really resisted the idea of sharing finances at first…i’m greedy, i’m a selfish…but, there was some altruistic reasoning behind my fear. see, i am the proud owner of a horribly financed student loan. i was locked in years ago at an 8.9% interest rate with Sallie Mae or as i like to call them, “she who shall not be named.” by the time i pay off my 20 grand STUDENT loan, i will have paid these bitches over 80 thousand dollars. it makes me sick to my stomach to think about. i even wrote Oprah a letter about it once. yes…i’m pathetic people. anyway, so i have this huge monthly payment that he had nothing to do with and i feel guilty that he would have to share this annoying burden with me. we talked it out and he swears he’s fine with it. (let’s just get it out of the way that lars is a much better person than i am)

so, yes there’s nothing like making a budget to remind you how much money you don’t make. i’m feeling smothered by it in fact. good thing i have this really inexpensive habit of kni… oh yeah.

damn!

there’s also the issue of my trying to go back to school. you see, i want to be a librarian. (yes, i really desire to have even higher, more ridiculous loan payments) i currently work as a “Sr. Library Specialist” in Acquisitions at an academic library. i am “staff.” for those of you outside of the library universe, let me explain…this means i do a lot of work and don’t make a lot of money and also “get no respect.” (“big ups” to rodney!)

i’m feeling the funk of the lower/middle classes dudes…and it’s funking me right in the butt.

as knitting goes…i knit a WHOLE ROUND last night after crying about money and consoling myself with a big bowl of moose tracks ice cream. the cranberry hat is shaping up nicely….does anyone want to buy it for 30 grand??

men without hats

look, i admit it…i’m making another damn hat. i not proud of it, okay…it’s an addiction.

i finished the “red dragon” hat for anita and i immediately started one for myself. the originial concept was “cranberry” but, i’m not sure that the colors i chose are exactly right. i’ll take some pictures tonight and you be the judge. i’m about half-way (these hats just fly off of the needles and therefore, rule).

i apologize to my loyal 2 readers for not posting yesterday. see…i sneaky sneak these posts at work. (Take that!) i’m thinking about getting a computer for home, just to asuage my guilt. we’ll see if i can afford it. see, they should pay me more so i can afford a computer, so i don’t have to rip them off while i’m actually supposed to be working. it’s a whole chicken/egg thing here, really.

anyway…so, yeah, i started the “not-so-cranberry” hat last night during the red sox/ yankees game. can someone please get the red sox some pants that fit? could someone force them all to shave and get a hair cut…. oh and could EVERYONE in baseball stop SPITTING so much. i’m trying to eat here, for god sake. at any rate, despite their grungy attire, i was pretty happy for them. i’m a sucker for the underdog…perhaps i’ll knit them all some hats.

(gentle reader…please note this is your cue to smack my hand and say firmly, “NO!…you are not to knit another thing for anyone other than youself this entire year!! get it? got it? good).
